Greetings to all members of the Association,
The Annual Conference
The Association’s annual conference will be held in Arad in September 2022 and registration is now open. There will be lectures and sessions at the conference on a variety of topics on the agendas of our fields of interest, including the social context of the war in Ukraine.
A considerable number of participants from abroad are expected at the conference, especially from the European Association ERGOMAS, whose board will convene in Jerusalem immediately after the conference. Simultaneous translation will be available for conference attendees from overseas.
The Kinneret Conference is an important opportunity to expand the Association’s membership, with special focus on researchers taking their first steps in their work, and we must make the most of this opportunity.
For this purpose, we offer reduced fees for participation in the conference.
Workshop for Research Students
The workshop for research students is being held for the second year, led by Professor Yehiel (Hilik) Limor and Dr. Eyal Lewin, with the generous support of the Ira Foundation. I appeal to all the Association’s members to identify potential participants for this important activity, perhaps the most important of the Association’s activities. Additional information on the research workshop is attached separately.
Research Group
The research group on youth and defense service in Israel is continuing its activities, and some of the research that has been presented and discussed is included in the Kinneret Conference program. A second research group, whose objective is to create new information for the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War is currently being established. Anyone who would like to contribute to this group’s activities is invited to contact me or Professor Hillel Nossek for additional information.
Members of the Association are invited to submit proposals for additional research groups and the Association will support their activities.
Association Members’ Participation in Public Debates
Public debates on issues related to military-civil knowledge take place incessantly. The Association does not express an official opinion in such debates, and I, personally, am happy to see Association members taking part in them. I would be even happier if such activities were to lead to new research on the debated topics.
Funding
Our activities need financial support, and I am once again taking this opportunity to appeal to each and every one of you with a request to donate to the Association, openly or anonymously.
I am at your service to promote the Association’s aims.
Sincerely,
Prof. Uzi Ben-Shalom
Chair of the Association of Civil-Military Studies in Israel
