Professor Uzi Ben-Shalom is a military sociologist and psychologist (License 27-6172), a military and security researcher, and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Ariel University. He enlisted in the IDF in 1986 and served in Unit 8200. He returned to military service in 1996 as a senior research officer in the Behavioral Sciences Department and in the ground forces. After retiring from regular service in 2015, he joined the faculty of Ariel University. From 2015-2021 he was Head of the Sociology and Anthropology Department and Co-Chair of the Military & Security Section of the Israeli Sociological Society. He is active in the reserves, a board member of the European Research Group on Military and Society (ERGOMAS) and has written some 80 papers on the military and security. His research is focused on social diversity, social cohesion, leadership, and human resources in security organizations.
He has been a member of the Association of Civil-Military Studies in Israel since its establishment.
Born in Kibbutz Maabarot, married, and father of four, he lives in Jerusalem.
