Dr. Idit Shafran-Gittleman heads the Military and Civil Program and is a senior researcher at the Israel Democracy Institute. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in philosophy, and a PhD in law. Her doctorate was on the subject of kinship favoritism in war. Idit is an external lecturer at the Faculty of Government in Reichman University.
Her areas of specialty include moral philosophy, political philosophy, ethics and law in war, and civil-military relations. Her research also focuses on the integration of women into the IDF, the IDF spirit, democracy and terror, and military involvement in civil crises.
